Nana and Pop-Pop decided that Dexter wasn't enough German Shepherd for the household... So a few weeks ago they brought home Rosie (Paper Rose). I've overheard everyone in the house saying they were worried how I'd handle the puppy.
I LOVE THE PUPPY! (Okay I don't love her chewing on my cheeks much, but she's just a puppy and I tell her when it's too much.) Rosie has decided I'm sort of her second Mama and I'm okay with that. We play and wrestle and cuddle and I took all the toys because I don't trust her with them. She's doing really well with the potty training! And since she and I play so much, I get to eat a little more. And that's wonderful.

As of today, I am no longer a cancer patient! My chemotherapy medication, Vinblastin, has been on backorder, so Dr. Ross contacted an oncologist and found out that two more doses wouldn't affect my prognosis either way and that I have a great chance of never developing metastatic cancer. I will probably get skin tumors again, but if we have them surgically removed, I should be fine. And he checked a thing on my paw and said it was fine to just keep an eye on it for now.
So... I'm done with that stage of my life. Now I can wean off the Prednisolone and eventually wean off the Prozac and just enjoy being the best darn pink pibble my family has ever seen. And I can go to see Dr. Ross and everyone at the office just because I'm a good dog, not because I'm getting chemo. Mama might have cried happy tears a little when she paid off the bill this afternoon. It's been a little bit of a crazy week as we get ready for the last gasp of summer and V started second grade and Mama has managed to hurt herself three times in really ridiculous ways (she's fine). Mostly though, it's been because of the wildlife. Last week Mama wouldn't let me eat the baby squirrel brothers we found in the yard. She made sure that even though they ran right up to me and it was like they were asking to be chewed on I couldn't get to them and then she moved them into the woods to get their best chance at growing up. Unfortunately one didn't make it, and she still didn't let me eat it. But it looks like the other one moved on to climb trees and throw acorns at us. The deer that visit the yard are a constant irritant. I know I could get them. But Mama says "no" and won't let me chase them or taste them or do anything but look at them and let them be. Even when they taunt me. But Mama really likes the deer, even though Pop-Pop says they are evil. One of the babies was hit by a car this week and Mama had to move it's body into the woods. V is getting a lot of circle of life lessons lately. And would someone please tell Mama to stop putting toads on me? I know I shouldn't have licked it, YUCK, but still Mama, just stop it already! So that's some of the wildlife we have here that have been keeping us busy and entertained, or frustrated in my case since I can't eat them.
Other than that, chemo is almost done although my next dose is being postponed due to the medication being on back order, but it is almost over and Mama is thrilled. I'm feeling great and having fun and even my knees are doing fine. Cannot wait until fall and finding out how Mama is going to dress me for Halloween. |
